“A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.” Bishop Desmond Tutu (via justbthat)
I really love this quote by Bishop Desmond Tutu, it is vital to an understanding of peace for me. Today I had a moment where a driver in a car in front of me did something really stupid and my first reaction was to become all indignant but then I stopped my self and realized that was a ridiculous response. Not only would it not do any good or change anything but it also caused my attitude to shift from a happy one to an annoyed one. I realized I didn’t want his mistake to mess up even a moment of my day or rent space in my brain.
Hopefully by sending out positive vibes if he was having a bad day or realized what a huge driving error he just made, maybe my kind thoughts transformed that moment into grace for him. I know this is a tiny example of being one with others, but if thinking globally and acting locally works, then each act of grace no matter how small can and will make a difference.
